Staff Showcase: Dennis & T.J.

Here at Midwest Photo Exchange, we don’t just employee salespeople. We employ photographers. Good photographers at that. Staff Showcase highlights our employees’ work.

Dennis and T.J. recently ventured out to the studio with Dennis’ Hasselblad H1D 22mp and a Broncolor Senso 1200 A2 Kit to take some professional photos with a medium format camera. They hired Gabrielle McDaniel to style and makeup Carolina, the model, and the studio was provided by Shane Fowler.

The lighting setups were really simple, but the effects achieved are pretty darn impressive.

Dennis’ approach was editorial. For this first one, Dennis setup one Litos head with a silver Broncolor umbrella three feet to the left of the camera, and another Litos head with a Photek silver umbrella to the right of the camera (both lights metered at f5.6.6):

Hasselblad H1D 22mp, HC 150mm F3.2 lens, Settings: f/5.6, 1/125s, ISO 50
Hasselblad H1D 22mp, HC 150mm F3.2 lens, Settings: f/5.6, 1/125s, ISO 50

For this next one, Dennis used one Pulso 2 head (metered at f5.6.7) with a medium Photek silver umbrella 1.5 feet to the left of the camera, and another Pulso 2 head (metered at f5.6.5) with a large white Photek Softlighter II as a shoot-through umbrella three feet to the right of the camera:

Hasselblbad H1D 22mp, HC 80mm f2.8 lens, Settings: f/5.6, 1/125s, ISO 50

T.J.‘s portion of the shoot was a bit more improvised. He basically turned Dennis’ lights around to face one of Shane’s colorful backdrops, found some Shutter Shades lying around, and went to work, resulting in images very pop-art in tone:
