Meet Joe Pocs. Joe is the Lighting Specialist at Midwest. Lighting can be a daunting endeavor for any photographer, and there is always an expert at the shop to help you find the tools that will help you take your lighting to the next level. Whether you just need help finding something, you are looking to upgrade your lighting system, or need help troubleshooting your current system, Joe is there to help.

The main light in this shot is the Profoto Magnum Reflector, with two 12×36 gridded LumoPro striboxes, on either side of Joe. The strip on the right is being used as an edge light, while the left strip is lighting the black background just enough to get a grey tone. The grey tone on the background helps his left-side stand out against the background. When shooting on black, one of the decisions that I tend to have to make is whether I want to separate the subject form the background or let them just sink into shadow. In this case, I wanted to show some separation without losing the low-key lighting.
