The Empire Hotel

This shot is from a series of photos taken in Secauacus, New Jersey. On the road at a trade show, we stayed in a hotel that had a large amount of halogen bulbs reflecting light off of its own off-white facade. It was amazing how the hotel was essentially just a big reflector that put light out in every direction. I loved the line and texture of the palettes, and how it led to where everything looks even more surreal.
I made sure the camera on a tripod, and left the shutter open for 2.5 seconds, and luckily the wind was still that night and all the branches that are in focus stayed sharp. My lens was open to it’s largest aperture and, since I had the Sony A7s at the time, 1000 ISO wasn’t an issue. As far as white balance goes, I shot in tungsten and the camera rendered the colors very faithfully to my eye.
