My experience with the Tamron 28-300

I recently had the chance to test out the new Tamron 28-300mm lens, and I was excited to see how it performed with landscape, portrait, and macro photography!

Landscape Photography

This lens truly shines in its versatility for landscapes. Whether capturing expansive scenes or zooming in on a specific area, it handles both with ease. During my visit to the Park of Roses, I was thrilled with the results! I could capture the entire park’s beauty and then zero in on captivating details like the stunning fountain. It was an amazing experience!

As a test to show the focal range I stood at the top of the tall metal gazebo in the park and took the same picture at different focal ranges. This really shows off the impressive range this compact lens carries.

Macro

With a focal length of up to 300mm, this lens allowed me to capture stunning close-ups of bees enjoying the flowers, all from a safe distance. The focus was impressive, and it did a fantastic job of blurring the background at higher focal lengths, especially at an aperture of f/4. The details were sharp, and the background blur added a beautiful depth to the shots.

Portrait

To be honest, this lens wouldn’t be my first choice for a dedicated portrait shoot. However, it would be quite handy for capturing large group shots or close-ups of individuals in action, like during sports events. While it does produce good quality photos, I felt a bit restricted creatively due to its limited aperture range. With the lowest aperture being f/4, achieving that beautiful bokeh effect or isolating a single subject can be challenging. For a beginner or hobbyist this can still get you some good shots of people and some portraits, It’s just not the same feeling of having a nice prime, or having something like a 24-70 f2.8.

Overall I would agree this is a great versatile lens! With compact zoom lenses especially with a wide range like this, there’s always some give and take, but I would still say this is a great lens to have if you are a frequent traveler, landscape, and Animal/ bird photographer. If you need an all around lens and can only take one with you, this would serve you well!

A Great Travel lens
