Results for “Print the Street” National Photo Contest

The deliberation is over and our team of pro photographers have returned the results! Our judges had the task of narrowing down all of our “Print the Street” contest entries to the top three prize winning entries. The judges panel consisted of a group of dedicated photographers, and the decision wasn’t easy.
An excerpt from the Judges’ decision, by Aaron Sheldon:
“Street Photography, by definition, is all over the place. It can mean very different things to different people. Rather than try to line up a strict set of criteria, I embraced the multifaceted quality of Street Photography.
Each of the three judges, with different backgrounds and style, looked for different elements when viewing/judging Street photography. In addition to standard composition rules, proper exposure, etc, my list of elements a street photo MUST have include: an urban element, a human element, and a candid element. I also look for a strong sense of place, something that really makes the viewer feel like they are in the photographers shoes at the moment of capture.
Just as I brought my list of do’s and don’ts, the other judges brought their own lists and, as I hoped, we did sometimes clash spectacularly. This gave us a truly honest field which was not skewed to any one specific school of Street photography thought or practice. I am happy to say that the level of skill and talent exhibited in the submissions made our job as judges quite tough, although not to the point of calling names or fist fights.”
In the end, the judges were able to narrow down the field to the final winners and awarded the Grand prize, Runner-up, and third place prizes, although it was a crowded field!

About Aaron Sheldon:
Aaron Sheldon is a Columbus based photographer with a background in Commercial, Architecture/Real Estate, Infrared, and Documentary photography. His clients have included Lifestyle Communities, American Municipal Power and Novak’s Tavern. He has had images featured in print, billboard and electronic advertising throughout the Midwest.
Aaron focuses his personal work on documenting the streets of Columbus, Cleveland, Boston, New York City and Washington, DC. He also teaches other photographers through classes and photo walks at Midwest Photo Exchange, as well as through private one-to-one mentoring.

I am an editorial wedding, fashion and commercial photographer, living in the ever growing city of Columbus Ohio and travel the world for my work/art. I have photographed people and places for most of my life. At the age of 13, I picked up my first camera (Canon AE-1) and kept rolling forward.
My beginnings were mainly music and skateboarding. After years of schooling and assisting, I movedtowards a more editorial fashion based look for my work.
