Gearing Up: Compacts with Impact

Compact cameras are coming back in a big way. Two that we’re really excited about are the Panasonic Lumix LF1 and the Sony RX100 II. These cameras make great backups for pro shooters, or fantastically powerful primary cameras for new photographers.

Panasonic Lumix LF1

The Lumix LF1 is Panasonic’s latest compact and the only one in its class that comes with a built-in adjustable electronic viewfinder. The Near Field Communication Wi-Fi connectivity and the Panasonic Image App allow you to share your photos right after you take them. You can even control the camera’s settings and shutter with your phone. The f/2.0 7.1x Opical Zoom Leica lens gives you more control over your depth of field than most compacts. The Lumix LF1 does full manual, a host of Creative Controls, and a Panoramic mode. Check out some photos taken with the Lumix LF1:

Sony Cyber-shot RX100 II

The Sony RX100 II takes everything that made the RX100 an instant classic — 20.2-megapixel 1″ CMOS sensor, ISO range from 100 to 25600, and a Carl Zeiss F1.8 lens — and makes some small but crucial improvements, such as adding a hot shoe, making the 3″ LCD screen tilt-able, including built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, and removing the anti-aliasing filter, resulting in sharper images. Check out some photos from our Moonlight Market Photo Walk taken with the Sony RX100 II:
