Do you love the 24-70 mm lens? Want a similar focal range for a better price? Then I’ve got a lens suggestion for you!
As I’ve been testing out some Sony cameras I wanted to get a versatile lens that was easy to travel with, not too heavy, and still had a low aperture. I usually go for the 24-70mm as my go to versatile lens but then I tried the Tamron 28-75mm and it became my new best friend. I would say it’s my new go to now over the 24-70mm. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 24-70mm lens. However, the Tamron 28-75mm produces great quality, is a little more compact, and serves well in a multitude of shoots. With being a videographer as well this gives a nice range as well for product videos, interviews, and is wide enough to capture vertical reels and fit the whole scene.
Some Specs

The Tamron 28-75mm has a aperture range of 2.8-22. It’s a compact size of 4.6″ long and weighs 19 oz. It also has a fast, quiet VXD linear motor for high-speed and high-precision autofocus. The zoom is smooth and quick, making it easy to change focal length between shots. I was able to fit the lens and a Sony Camera body separated in a medium sized purse and carry it around, which was nice for a more casual event.
Photo Range Examples
I’ve taken it with on a weekend trip and was able to get close-ups, landscapes, and wide group shots (pictures below). It’s always nice to be able to have one lens that does it all and well. I don’t always like to bring more than 1 or 2 lenses and this one lens served me well.

If you’re a frequent traveler, the family photographer, or a professional looking for a versatile lens this would be my recommendation! It could also be a nice starter lens to test out what range you like to shoot in and see what focal length you would enjoy for a prime.
Side by Side Comparison

If you want a very similar range with a lighter feel and a bit more budget friendly then the 28-75 mm is the one for you.
