via Urban Legends and Drone Use: Change Is Coming! – PPA Today.

We just came across the article above about the changing laws regarding the use of drones commercially. When I say drone, I am referring to the use of UAV’s- unmanned aerial vehicles, such as quad-copters and other types of remotely controlled flying devices.

If you have followed the ongoing drone saga for a while now, you may be aware of the rapidly changing rules and regulations surrounding the use of UAV’s-unmanned aerial vehicles. As of now, you cannot use a drone commercially, meaning you cannot use your drone to make money. Read the post for the details, but PPA (Professional Photographers of America) is fighting to make the rules more inclusive of photographers and other small businesses looking to make use of these new technologies.

As of the date of this post, you can fly drones as a hobbyist, although you have to register your drone with the FAA. If you are looking to register your drone, check out this article from PPA for info the process of getting yourself registered to legally fly your drone.

All that being said, flying and learning about drones doesn’t have to be confusing! If you want to learn how to fly, make sure you check out the Drone 101: Learn to Fly class on April 23rd! There will be hands-on flight time for the attendees and class size is limited, so sign up soon!
