This image demonstrates about a 3:1 reproduction ration. This type of magnification can offer a couple of serious challenges. One, the depth of field, at this ratio and lens to subject distance is razor thin, requiring careful attention be paid to the focal plane in relationship to the subject. Two, as this was a live subject, manual focus, combined with macro flash allowed finding focus by rocking in and out on the subject and motion being stopped by the flash duration, rather than the shutter speed.
