I suppose the normal person doesn’t like wet, foggy, cold walks in  the morning, but I (definitely not being considered normal) love the muted tonal ranges that present themselves and the stark compositions that become apparent.

As I considered the possibilities for this image, I noticed the band of white grasses located just forward of the lone tree in the scene. To me, it seemed as if that band of vegetation made a much better dividing line in the composition, than the tree itself did. I elected for a very short depth of field, shooting at a wide open f/2.8 and focused a little forward of the tree, letting the far focus limit, of the depth of field, include the tree.

  1. We really like your photo. We have recently purchased a Nikon D3300 and it is first ‘proper’ camera we have used. If you could please have a look at our photos and offer some advice on how to get great shots then we would really appreciate it! Our post with our first pictures is https://thiscouplewent.wordpress.com/2016/02/14/taking-our-new-nikon-d3300-for-a-walk-in-the-woods/ . We have been looking through blogs for what we feel are clearly talented photographers, if you could help then that would be great!
