Canon MT24EX Macro Flash, 2X StoFen MT24EX Diffusers
Okay this will be the last Orchid image for a while, but I just couldn’t resist. The Orchids are back at the Franklin Park Conservatory and so am I.
ISO 1600 1/100 @ f/16

In this image I have significantly increased the ISO in comparison to the last two I have shared. I was looking to register more of the ambient light (and thus the green foliage in the background) than I was in those two shots. The resulting image gives me a softer colored background as a result. I am a huge fan of controlling the ambient background in macro shots at will, I feel it gives me another layer of creative control, without having to bring anything extra with me. The natural by-product of increasing the ISO is the need to dial back the power of the flashes. I am a firm believer in Manual Exposure mode, as it makes setting these shots up a lot easier.
