Speaking in Tongues
I suppose everyone’s vision for what each image says to them is a little unique, but for me this one says “Serpent.” The Orchids are back at the Franklin Park Conservatory and so am I.
ISO 200 1/100 @ f/14
Orchids are one of my favorite flowers to photograph. They have many suggestive and unique lines to their anatomy and are additionally very mysterious in all of the hidden and dimensional spaces. This image takes advantage of a low ISO to effectively eliminate the background ambient light and a little manual flash to fill in the foreground elements that I found interesting in the composition. First time I have used the Canon MPE65 lens and I love how it works and the results it produces. If you are paying close attention to your focal plane, the results are very sharp and flat all the way across to all edges of the image. I know some may be turned off by the lack of focusing ring on the lens, but from my previous macro experience, the process of moving your camera to the proper focal point works a whole lot better for me anyways.
