Just Announced: LumoPro LP180!

Earlier today, LumoPro announced their new flagship product, the LP180 Quad-Sync Manual Flash. Needless to say, we’re excited about it.

From what we’ve seen and read, the LP180 improves on its storied predecessor, the LP160, in every way. Let’s take a look at some of the newly announced features that make the LP180 “an essential solution for off-camera flash enthusiasts.”

1/3-Stop Increments Power Adjustments: No longer are you confined to adjusting your power by full stops. The LP180 allows you to control your light output by 1/3-stop increments, giving the OCF photographer a much greater freedom in how they light any situation.

High Voltage Battery Port: Want a shorter recycle time? Power your LP180 with a high voltage battery and cut recycle times down from 4 seconds at full power with normal AA batteries to 1 second with a high voltage battery. If you’re using AA batteries, you’ll enjoy the new spring-loaded battery door.

Easy Mounting Capabilities: The LP180 now sports a side ¼-20 mounting thread, which makes mounting the flash directly to light stands or swivels, such as the LP634 Umbrella Swivel, as effortless as ever. Its redeveloped mounting foot keeps your LP180 secure on swivels, cameras, or triggering devices, and features a drop-down locking pin that works in conjunction with the Frio double-locking cold shoe for extra security.

Built-in Gel Slot: Want to change the color of your light output? That’s now much easier with the LP180‘s built-in gel slot, eliminating the need for a separate gel holder. Slide the gels that are included with the LP180 into the gel slot and watch as they bow away from the flash head to avoid heat distortion. This gel slot is in addition to the wide-angle diffuser and bounce card also built into the flash.

Updated Interface: Internally, the LP180 is supported by an updated interface that includes an audible flash ready tone, sleep mode, and thermal cut-off that slows recycling time instead of cutting off the flash. Plus, the LP180‘s now equipped with a backlit LCD screen, making it easier to use in the dark.
