This Week in the World: 3/17 – 3/23

This Week in the World looks at this week’s most interesting stories out of the photo world.

Canon announced several new cameras this week. The one that’s gotten the most attention is the Canon EOS Rebel SL1, which is the first “ultra-compact DSLR.” The camera boasts an 18-MP APS-C CMOS sensor, a 3.0″ Touchscreen LCD display, a native ISO range of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600), full HD 1080p video capabilities, 9-point auto focus, and weighs less than a pound. Canon also announced the EOS Rebel T5i, the newest flagship in the Rebel line, which features a 18-MP APS-C CMOS sensor, a 3.0″ variable angle touchscreen LCD display, full HD 1080p video capture, and 5fps continuous shooting. Get it body only or order the 18-55 kit.

There’s also an exciting new compact camera, the Canon SX-280, which debuts the new DIGIC 6 image processor, in addition to built-in Wi-Fi and a 12-MP CMOS sensor. This camera has a 20x zoom F3.5-6.8 lens and 1080p HD video capabilities.
